Saggy Boobs

As you’re getting older, do you notice your breasts are sagging a little more than they used to? Don’t be concerned, sagging breasts (also known as Breast Ptosis in the medical community) is a common and has many easy solutions!

Is Your Bra Causing Sagging Breasts?

The first place to start when you notice the girls are heading south is to check that you are wearing the proper band size. Too large of a band size will pull down the front of the bra, causing sagging and discomfort. Check out our bra Sizing Guide if you’re unsure about your size or come in to Hourglass Lingerie for a personal 1-on-1 fitting.

If you are certain that your bra fits correctly and are still experiencing sagging, it’s likely time to invest in a new bra. An older bra that is stretched and worn simply cannot offer the same amazing support it once did. Most bras only last six to nine months with proper care. To help keep your bras alive for the longest amount of time possible, (and save money in the long run!) take a look at our Lingerie Care Guide for detailed information

When looking to replace that old-favorite bra, it can be hard to find something that could live up to the legacy. We’ve collected a list of bras as well as other helpful tricks to help eliminate sagging breasts!

Other Causes of Sagging Breasts

Changes in breast apperance, like sagging breasts, are a natural cosmetic result of aging. As women age, the ligaments in the breast tend to stretch out over time and the skin loses its natural elasticity, causing it to appear saggy or wrinkled.

Other medical reasoning behind saggy breasts include:

  • collagen/estrogen deficiency
  • high BMI
  • gravity
  • larger breast size
  • menopause
  • multiple pregnancies (rapid hormonal changes)
  • rapid weight loss/weight gain
  • smoking (accelerates the aging process)

Solutions to Sagging Breasts

Full cup and underwire bras are often incredibly helpful at providing a lift for sagging breasts. They have large amounts of padding and shape and with proper care, will solve the issue for a longer period of time.

Here at Hourglass Lingerie, our top bra recommendations to help eliminate sagging breasts are the Elomi Cate EL4030 Black Underwire Full Cup Banded Bra and the Elomi Smooth EL4301 Clove UW Moulded T-Shirt Bra.  However, as stated above, bras do have a limited lifespan, so be mindful of when your bra is lacking and could need a replacement.

For more physically active women, it is critical to have a well fitted sports bra. Sports bras with ample support (molded cups) can reduce breast motion from working out or playing sports, both factors that contribute to sagging and stretching breasts. Here at Hourglass Lingerie, our go to sports bra is the Anita Momentum 5519 Metallic Black Underwire Sports Bra.

Exercises for Sagging Breasts

A cheap solution many women overlook when handling sagging breasts is exercise! Working out the pectoral muscles (muscles of the chest area) actually provides much more lift and support to the breasts than you would expect, as well as adding shape to the torso.

The most popular exercises we recommend to women with sagging breasts are push-ups, weight training, yoga, and swimming. This solution is cost effective and has proven to show great results!

Breast Augmentation Surgery

The most permanent solution to sagging breasts is breast augmentation surgery. This procedure involves using breast implants or fat transfer to restore breast size lost due to sagging. Breast augmentation can also be beneficial to achieve a more uniform shape after weight loss or pregnancy. Talk to your doctor to see if breast augmentation surgery would be the right solution.
